When my brother and I used to walk back home from school in Normandy (I was around 9 years old) we would always walk by the studio of Paul Ambroselli (sculptor), and I hoped to see him work, talk, and learn from him (overall, bothering him, I guess). I remember going with my parents to visit the local artists and friends such as Albert Mallet (one that you may know). I followed my passion to study Plastic Arts and Art History in Aix en Provence and Montpellier, and then perfected my technique by working as a scenic artist and set designer in the US for a number of years.

I have been painting consistently since the late eighties (some years more intensely than others) but this is the first time I dedicate myself to it full time, focusing only on my own creations. Pretty scary choice! But I am already seeing results, and I am loving it.

About my work as it is today: You could label it as “Modern” because it is clearly inspired by expressionism, post impressionism, fauvism, and others…Basically, I’d rather transmit an emotion and express sensations than copy nature (a photo can do that better). I use shapes and colors to create an atmosphere, applying myself to extract the light from the paint, playing with vibrating colors and trying to give life to the scene (sort of like a micro God ;)). Lately, I am experimenting with trees and forests, focusing on the visual effect of the rhythm created by trunks and the light projecting itself through them, in front them or behind them. I want the spectator to feel the place, to project himself into the scene and that is why many times I’d rather not add people and keep the place empty, to give more space to the viewer’s imagination. Ultimately I want my painting to be a little magical.

Take my world for it: the paintings are better in reality than in these pictures and I am trying to fix that. In the mean time if you are in Madrid, I invite you to come and see them at my studio.

Once again, many thanks for becoming a Fan, and helping me with the marketing aspect of the trade.
